Kirby Mealer is an American New Media artist with a focus on 3D. Their work is primarily in the virtual realm, utilizing a large variety of digital mediums such as virtual reality, 3d modeling, and digital illustration. These works are created using software such as Unity, Blender, Autodesk Maya, and Adobe Suite. Kirby has a Bachelor of Science in 3D Animation from Middle Tennessee State University and a Master in Fine Arts in Transdisciplinary New Media from Paris College of Art.
Interested in humanity's relationship with technology, they explore the relationship between virtual existence and humanity in their artworks. Their thesis "The Uncanny Valley Aesthetic in New Media Art" explores this relationship, and Masahiro Mori's Uncanny Valley theory is a large inspiration for their work. Kirby's work incorporates the uncanny valley, going beyond uncanny appearances and utilizing it in a more abstract way through uncanny narratives. Currently based in Paris, France. |
